Day 11 – Moving alarm and chasing walls

My uncle who is an electrician came today to move the master alarm box from its present location in the centre of the loft to one of the corners. This was done by disconnecting each of the PIR sensor wires and bell wire and lengthening them to stretch over to the new location. He also disconnected the power for the door bell and moved the mains cable to the same location as the alarm.

In the afternoon I started work on chasing the walls so I could install network, TV, Satellite, HDMI and CCTV cables to all the downstairs rooms. I had four rooms to do; the living room which will have a total of 6 Cat6 points, two F-plugs for Sky, an RG59 for CCTV and a HDMI cable which will do to a distributor in the loft. Our current master bedroom (which will become Matthews room when we go upstairs) is going to have two Cat6 points, two F-plugs for Sky, an RG59 for CCTV and a HDMI cable. Matthews Room (which will become the gym) will have four Cat6 points, two F-plugs for Sky, an RG59 for CCTV and a HDMI cable and finally my study/office will have eight Cat6 points. I will also chase the walls in here for the electricians to install six new sockets.

Doing all this chasing was quite time consuming and I was working until midnight doing it, I was able to do three rooms; living room, master bedroom and Matthews bedroom.

The chaser that I hired had two diamond disk cutters on it which created a 44mm channel up the wall, I then needed to use a lump hammer and bolster to knock out all the plaster and brick in between the two cuts, which was hard work. I used and SDS drill to cut out the holes for the back boxes (I did not want to use this for the channels as it created a lot of dust).
